  1. Hello Ayunie, you’ve put together an interesting storyboard and have explored a good range of SFX with descriptions. But in your final animatic it’s a shame that you don’t make more of these to tell your story.

The use of music is always tricky to get right – music can create a mood and enhance a narrative, but is can just as equally disconnect a viewer from the environment that you want them to inhabit. Although the mood of the music in your animatic attempts to convey the emotions in your story, it is too generic to help the viewer understand the narrative. The moments where you introduce your own SFX are great because it is these moments that bring the viewer into your world and help them connect with the story you are trying to tell.

Rather than music, think of the ambiences and environmental sounds that your characters would be hearing. Experiment with recording some long ambiences - e.g. outside noise, people talking, a construction site - to create a ‘bed’ of sound throughout the animatic, then make more use of your other recorded SFX to punctuate your story with sounds that convey an appropriate emotional response in the viewer and connect them to the narrative.

    1. Hi Tony,
      Thank you for the feedback.
So from this point forth, the way I string my SFX would be my music instead, right? Do you reckon it is better if I were to have the characters do like football chants/singing to help create the mood?

  2. I'm with Tony - the !MUSIC! is dominating your world (and Garage Band loops can, in themselves, become distracting, because people recognise them from the software). Strip out the loops and get stuck into your SFX more proactively.

    1. After the feedback and looking at it again, I guess i just wanted the music to set the tone of my sequence. I will use it as a guide(for speed and pacing purposes only) and have my own SFX to sync the visuals and sound together. Thank you for the extra input Phil. It affirms me that it was not such a bright idea to have the music driving the story forward. A story I think that has many potential to be a good one with right SFX.
