Part A (Narrative) - Character UV Texturing (Feet & Tail)

This is the feet, UV Mapped.

The tail, UV Mapped.

@Alan Part A (Narrative) - Character UV Texturing (Arms)

This is the arms done after UV Mapping.

@Alan, I am not sure what I did wrong but my edges does not match and even I were to flip the UV Set of the hands to match it, it still doesn't work.

Part A (Narrative) - Character UV Texturing (Head, Throat, Body)

To UV Map the character, I have decided to split the character into several parts (Head, Arms, Feet and Tail) so that I can UV Map it the same way as those in the tutorials.

Head UV Mapped:

Throat UV Mapped

Body UV Mapped:

Part A (Narrative) - Character Modelling (Throat)

I have gone and modelled the throat of our character.

Part A (Narrative) - Character Modelling (Overall Changes)

After having a discussion with Alan about the flaws of our model, he helped make the changes to show us what had to be done to correct our problem. The flaw of our previous model is that we wanted to have some stitching going on between the limbs and the body but we were not able to get it right. After this correction, we see how the geometry flow and this is what we were going for in the model.

Narrative Film Theory - Character Analysis of Marcus (Freedom Writers)

For this assignment, I have chosen the film Freedom Writers (2007) and focusing on Marcus's character to analyse.

Freedom Writers (2007) is a film based on the true story of Erin Gruwell and Wilson High School's Freedom Writers. Ms Gruwell is excited and ready to share her knowledge with her new class only to realise that these students were not interested. They want nothing more that to make through the day. Her class were made up of students from diverse racial groups and walks of life. There were the African Americans, Latinos, Asians, juvenile delinquents, gang members, and underprivileged students from poor neighborhoods. The common thing that these students have is the mutual hatred feeling they have for each other because of their diverse ethnic groups. However, Ms Gruwell is a determined, positive attitude educator who is willing to go beyond her job to make a difference in these kids lives. So, she have decided to ask these students to pen down anything, especially their thoughts and feelings in a journal for their English assignment.

Wants: To go back home to his mother and leave behind his gang life

Needs: To show interest in school and mix with good company to prove to his mother that he is so much better than she thinks he is

Change: He was forced to watch his own back and face the world by himself at a very young age after he was being wrongfully accused of a friend’s death. Since then, he has learnt to be independent. After leaving juvie, he joined a gang that has offered him "protection" and has been it since then. However, after attending Ms Gruwell's English class and the positive impact she has on him, he decides to leave the gang for good.

Flaws: Marcus was very defensive of his own kind(his ethnic group) and will protect them at all cost

Conflict: He knows that there is no way out of the gang life apart from being dead. He knows that he is still young and there is a lot more that life has got to offer.

Part A (Narrative) - Character Modelling (Refinement of Face)

I have gone to add the mouth and refined our character's nose.

@Alan, since the head of our character sits on the body and we don't think it needs a neck, how do you suggest I model that part of the character though?

Part B (Character) - Character Designs Development

These are my characters that has been developed further. Since I am going doing an educational game, I have decided to centralised the characters personalities based on the type of students there is in school. There's the Ms Nerdy, Mr Bully, Ms Popular and Mr Sleepy.

Part B (Character) - Character Designs

From my previous silhouettes of possible characters, I have gone to add details to three of them. A personality has now emerged for each robot. From this point forth, I will keep in mind the desired personality and colours for my characters.

I have also note that my characters look flat here. I will work on it to make it more 3 Dimensional.

Part B (Character) - Definitive Influence Map (Gameplay & Environment)

As I look into my game concept and since I know that I wanted to make it an educational game, I went to into how to make a circuit work. Since it is aimed for kids, I was thinking of bright and neon colours to capture the attention.

Additionally, I look into possible environments as suggested by Justin. On this page, once the player is able to complete the circuit at the various stages, a robot will be constructed and the trophy room is where they'll be placed at. The robots would be animated, showing their personality as they are displayed.
